Course Summary/Audience

This introductory course in clinical oncology provides a brief but comprehensive introduction to clinical oncology. The course has broad application for those in clinical practice as well as those in training to include physicians, physician assistants, nurses and other health care professionals.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of this educational activity, the participant should be able to:

  1. Apply scientific concepts to patient care activities during their clinical training (knowledge, competence, performance);
  2. Identify patients at increased risk for cancer and implement risk reduction and cancer screening strategies (knowledge, competence, performance, patient outcomes);
  3. Identify the role of various physician specialists and other health care providers in regards to their role in patient care (knowledge, competence);
  4. Identify the role of various treatments during each stage of cancer care (knowledge,competence);
  5. Recognize symptoms, treatment side effects, serious complications and end-of-life concerns for cancer survivors (knowledge, competence).
